Susan Sharples

Susan was born and raised in Badin.  She is an alumnus of Pfeiffer and UNCC with degrees in early childhood and intermediate education.  She is also recognized as a Nationally Certified Teacher. Susan grew up surrounded with natural storytellers who painted vivid mental stories for her; her paternal grandmother, her father and mother, neighbors and relatives. So it was natural for her to begin telling stories early on.

When she became a teacher, she understood the importance of the storytelling traditions in child development and used stories of all sorts and for all purposes in her class.  After retiring from education in 2009, she began energetically pursuing the art of storytelling.  She currently specializes in children’s tales and “Down Home Stories” about the Badin and Morrow Mt. communities.

Married to Russ Sharples for nearly 36 years, they have two daughters: Emily Sharples and Stephanie Francis.  Susan is also mother-in-law to Taylor Francis.  But most importantly she is Gram to Edward Russell Francis age 2.
