GEORGETTE M. EDGERTON
Georgette has been a tale spinner since childhood. She grew up in Badin surrounded by a family of natural storytellers from whom she learned her craft. As a mother with 3 young daughters, she found herself regaling them and neighbor children with the old stories which led her to becoming a fixture in her church and community. Georgette has been telling stories at birthday parties, schools, family reunions, churches and women’s retreats for three decades. She loves to share stories with young and old.
She has been an educator for over 30 years teaching in the schools as well as through her stories. Georgette Edgerton is a science teacher and member of the Spirit and Truth United Church of Worship.
Georgette now has grandchildren who are as eager to hear her tales as are visitors to storytelling festivals and community events where she performs. She says storytelling is in her blood. She claims her mother, Cornelia Medley, and aunt, Cherry Mae Covington, as two of her storytelling “sheroes”. She carries an autographed card of her third "shero," Jackie Torrence, in her wallet.
